Data analysts require access to this organized data repository to study insights. Security of data covers three main areas in data warehouse applications: storage, transit, and access.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under these stages of storage, transit and access, data shall be made secure, confidential, integrated, and available. Google cloud\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/cloud.google.com\/architecture\/confidential-data-warehouse-blueprint#overview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">new security update<\/a> for its data warehouse BigQuery promises novel data measures under these areas of protection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are four layers of <a href=\"https:\/\/siliconangle.com\/2022\/04\/06\/google-cloud-shares-blueprint-building-secure-cloud-data-warehouse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">BigQuery security scheme<\/a> as visible in the Google Cloud\u2019s official block diagram. These four layered areas are discussed as follows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/dice.pk\/insights\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/google.png\" alt=\"Google cloud data warehouse security\" class=\"wp-image-1181\" \/><figcaption>BigQuery Security Procedure\/Image at <a href=\"https:\/\/cloud.google.com\/architecture\/confidential-data-warehouse-blueprint#overview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Google Cloud<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>At the first layer, the \u201c<em>landing area layer<\/em>\u201d Google cloud aims to protect the data coming from various data sources at the ingestion stage. This data includes the already collected set of data (also called the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.precisely.com\/blog\/big-data\/big-data-101-batch-stream-processing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">batch data<\/a>) stored in Google cloud, as well as the new data streams (also called streaming data) in Google Pub\/Sub.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At this layer, BigQuery offers the protection measures of Identity and Access Management (IAM), Access Control Lists (ACLs), and encryption of data in transit and storage.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the storage level, the \u201c<em>data warehouse layer<\/em>\u201d, Google Cloud happens to ensure safe storage of data and processing it for de-identification. De-identification of data is the process of making data unrelatable to its user identity and is a compliance under the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.termsfeed.com\/blog\/gdpr-anonymization-versus-ccpa-de-identification\/#What_Is_Ccpa_De_Identification\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">California Consumer Protection Act (CCPA)<\/a>. This ensures user\u2019s identity protection in case of a breach as well as keeps the user&#8217;s identity invisible from inside administrators.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the data is de-identified at one pipeline, Google Cloud allows to re-identify data in a second and completely separate pipeline for some confidential use cases. These specific projects are accessible to a limited number of data analysts or warehouse administrators.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The \u201c<em>classification and data governance layer<\/em>\u201d performs encryption on data and classifies data against confidential and non-confidential parameters. Categorizing data in such perimeters allows isolation of confidential data and restricts its access to unrelated projects. This saves companies from the risk of data breach such as copying or transferring data.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The category of data (cofidential\/non-confidential) along with the access information is recorded in the Data Catalog. The category is identified with tags called policy tags.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, the fourth layer is the \u201c<em>security posture layer<\/em>\u201d that is designed to perform malice detection, warehouse monitoring and checking response of Google Cloud\u2019s data warehouse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One main feature of the security update is the useability of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.redhat.com\/en\/topics\/automation\/what-is-infrastructure-as-code-iac\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Infrastructure as Code (IaC)<\/em><\/a>\u201d which is the management of infrastructure using the code. Customers find it easy to use IaC and monitor their current security compliance to track security KPIs.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More interestingly, experts noted that Google Cloud\u2019s layered security design has been specifically modeled as a way that is clearly and easily understood by business administrators.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Google has ensured the reliable working of its data warehouse security scheme. The comprehensive layered-security is tested by the Google cybersecurity action team and a third party security organization.
